Dear Mer,

I hope you can guess what they are doing in these pictures.  My trip finishes tomorrow, will be back with the Hutchinson's in time for dinner.  Have you learnt about Sir Walter Raleigh at school yet?  This town is named after him, they pronounce it RAHleigh and I always forget to do so!

Dear Fish (Nick),

I'm wondering if the people from the car are ever going to get back into it, the bear doesn't look as if he means to move on, does he?  He's probably waiting for a lollypop, or perhaps some honey.

Dear Mer,

Can you swim well enough yet to ride a Seahorse?  I met two Australian Cockatoos yesterday and I talked to them in my best Australian but the horrid birds couldn't have cared less.

Dear Fish (Nick),

I don't think these porpoise are as clever as some I saw, they took the fish out of theman's mouth.  I also saw a doctor (pretending Dr) put a spatula down a whale's throat and the whale said 'Ah' when he was told to.

The hot dog looks more like a big fat worm to me, however I don't suppose the chimp would mind much if it was.

U.S.A. - Connecticut - 12.11.1962

Connecticut is an Indian term meaning 'upon a long river'.  The State Flower is the Mountain Laurel, the Bird is the Robin, the Tree is the White Oak, and the Motto is 'Qui Transtulit Sustinet'  -  He who Transplanted still Sustains.
Greetings from Old Greenwich, Conn.

c/o  G. Nelson, Gregory Road, Cos Cob, Connecticut - 12.11.1962

Dear Timmy,

Puzzle, find the inkspot.  We are just round the corner from Greenwich.  There is a trout stream just across the road where Bob, the son in this household, fishes, it's really a lovely part of the world.

     Love Nan

Dear Mer,

This is the sort of Autumn colouring I've been seeing all across the country.  Here, there is very little green left.  Have they got a doll yet in Australia that repeats everything you say to it?  Iv'e only seen it on T.V. but it is really something.

     Love Nan.

Dear Fish ( Nick),

Mott, Pell and Bayard Streets.

New York - 8.11.1962

Dear Mer,

Last time I was here we went to China Town it was so hot that an egg would cook on the footpath.  That's true, people do so sometimes here just to show it can be done.

     Love Nan.
