San Diego, California - 20.10.1962

Dear Pen,

I'd tell you what we call these flowers if I could spell it, anyway it's not poppies!  I've seen plenty growing along the roadsides really good they look too.

These are rather nice little sticks, aren't they?  Tell all your family and the Cobcrofts (and of course yourself) that I will be at the Nordale Hotel, Fairbanks, Alaska from 7th August until 10th, and they had better jolly well have letters there for me, marked 'to await arrival'.

San Francisco, California - 23.10.1959

Dear Pen,

We went along the line marked with X'.     Saw masses and masses of cotton and grapes growing, also Mt Shasta.  We've had a good trip on the ship so far we have a big cabin with proper beds, not bunks.  Lots of fog all the way from Vancouver, fog horn makes a horrible noise.  Nice and sunny here though.
     Lots of love, N & S
